  • Having at last achieved his Perfect Form, the evil Cell's powers have soared to terrible new heights, overshadowing even the greatest of the Z-Fighters. The day of reckoning upon them, Goku and the Z-Fighters li

NTSC/Region 1. 29 episodes on 6 discs. Includes the complete Cell Games Saga.At the end of season five of Dragon Ball Z, artificial android Cell achieved his perfect form and challenged the Z Fighters to a martial arts tournament to determine the fate of the Earth. Now the tournament begins, but it proves to be a very uneven adventure. The contest begins slowly: The first 11 episodes are just set-up and filler, with little action. The battles between Cell and the Z Fighters offer plenty of excitement, as the brawlers blast each other through rocky cliffs and fling bursts of energy into space. Goku correctly predicts that Gohan will crush Cell. But the story falls into repetitions; Cell has to be killed three times before he'll stay dead. When Cell announces the tournament on TV, Mr. Satan, a WWF-type, appears as Earth's champion. Although he's a coward and a phony, the TV crew fawns over him--a lame gag that goes on far too long. The filmmakers also change the rules in mid-story. Ce

4.0 out of 5 stars Another solid season set, September 17, 2008
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
Dragon Ball Z is the one greatest anime series ever created. With its action-packed universe and compelling storylines, Akira Toriyama's magnum opus has never failed to please. This is the latest season set FUNimation has released of the series.

This set picks up where the last one left off. In his Perfect form, Cell is seemingly invincible. After the Z-Fighters were unable to defeat the villain, he retreats, stating that in 10 days time he will hold a tournament, so that he may fight the strongest fighters in the world. Our heroes go into training, knowing what lies ahead will be their toughest battle yet.

The DVD set is divided amongst six discs, and contains the complete Cell Games Saga (the post-Cell Afterlife Tournament episodes are, disappointingly, NOT included. They will be featured in the next set.) The picture has been subjected to digital noise reduction, and the set includes a booklet of character profiles and episode listings.

Obviously, if you're new to Dragon Ball Z, you'll want to start with the Season One box set, but if you're already a fan, you'll enjoy these episodes. The previous set contained some excellent fight scenes, and you get plenty more of them here, including Gohan Vs. Cell - one of the most legendary of all Dragon Ball Z fights. The first 10 episodes or so of this set are terrible - some of the worst anime-only filler in the series, with only the occasional interesting moment, like the coming of a new Guardian of Earth. But once you get past those stinkers, it's an all-out thrill ride for the latter two thirds of the package. The Cell Games (first 10 or so episodes aside) feature some incredible battles. It's just a shame the "afterlife tournament" episodes weren't included. I, personally, thought those episodes always worked better as "Post Cell" episodes than "Pre-Buu" ones, though my opinion may be in the minority there.

One of my personal favorite features of the set is the Marathon feature. FUNimation includes a feature in these sets that allows you to view all of the episodes on each disc from start to end with no interruptions from intros/outros/recaps/etc. This is an extremely handy feature I wish more TV shows on DVD had.

Like earlier Dragon Ball Z season sets, the picture has been cropped at the top and bottom (this was done due to excessive grain and damage to the original source), and it has been subjected to the digital noise reduction process. Obviously a lot of fans, myself included, were disappointed to see the picture get cropped. While the digital noise reduction doesn't do as thorough a job cleaning up the image as you'd hope, it IS the best these episodes have ever looked. In other words, it's a "give and take" scenario. You lose some of the picture you could see on earlier full-frame DVDs, but on the good side, you gain some picture on the sides, and the image quality is superior to all earlier DVD releases.

Sound quality is similar to the earlier sets. English audio quality is fantastic, but the dub is still translated poorly and the voice cast is hit and miss. On the other hand, the Japanese audio quality is poor, showing its age, but it does feature a well-translated subtitle track from Steven J. Simmons that lets you experience the series as originally intended.

Additionally, like the earlier sets, you have the option of watching the English voice cast played against the original Japanese audio.

Disappointingly, the next episode previews aren't included. But they weren't in any earlier season set, so it's no big surprise.

No special features are included here unless you count the trailers and the same textless opening/closing sequence all other sets like this have had. On the good side, the set does include a booklet similar to the earlier sets, with character profiles and an episode guide, making it handy to go right where you need to go on the DVDs.

It's another great Dragon Ball Z season set, enough said. Easily some of the best material in the entire series. If you're a fan of the series and don't already have these episodes, you can get them all here for one low price. Cropping issues aside, this is a great set, and a good value, especially compared to the older DVD releases.

Highly recommended to any fan of Dragon Ball Z.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's all about Gohan!!, May 9, 2009
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
I've been a hardcore Dragon Ball Z fan since I first discovered the show in middle school, especially when the spotlight has been on Gohan. To me, he's the easiest character to relate to and I've always admired him for it. He not only copes with major self doubts, but learns to overcome them as his father helps him to believe in himself as his epic battle against Cell takes place.

I've watched this part of the series at least two dozen times and still get goose bumps with the way it ends. I can't think of a more inspirational cartoon moment than when a banged up Gohan manages to take down the super-freakishly powerful Cell through the help of his friends and father. If you haven't yet seen it, then I highly recommend that you see how this magnificent story goes down.

Cell is also my favorite DBZ villain as well. Not only is he the most tricky villain to defeat, but he's the only one who ever successfully managed to kill Goku. He seemed like an indestructible superhero to me before that and it takes quite the bad guy to defeat him.

So with all these flowery words I've said about this box set, do you wonder why I only give it FOUR stars? Well there's two reasons for it. Not only am I still annoyed with the widescreen format that they put this into, but HOW COULD YOU PUT GOKU ON THE COVER INSTEAD OF GOHAN!?! THIS IS HIS TIME TO SHINE IN THE SERIES, PLUS GOKU IS ALREADY ON THE SEASON 2 COVER!! (Sigh)

Oh well, what's done is done. If you consider yourself a DBZ fan and haven't bought this one yet, do it. Overall, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made my life a lot easier, July 14, 2011

This review is from: Steinberg Cubase 6 Retail Multitrack Recording Software (CD-ROM)
I'd been a Sonar/cakewalk user for about 8 years now. when I last updated to Sonar X1, I was so displeased with the stability and overall "unpolishedness" of everything... So I started researching other DAWs and found Cubase 6. I was so impressed with its new features I went ahead and bought it without even trying it, could've been a ridiculously stupid thing to do, but in a day, I was already fluent with it. It does everything Sonar does even better, Cubase looks and feels more polished, it offers deeper customization and control over your audio at your finger tips.
The only thing I still miss about Sonar is its drum maps, other than few remaining collaborate works, I'll pretty much uninstall sonar. I'm certainly pleased with Cubase stability, no more blue screens at crucial times.

Do yourself a favor and at least try Cubase 6.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal software!, January 25, 2012

This review is from: Steinberg Cubase 6 Retail Multitrack Recording Software (CD-ROM)
I started with Cubase SX, upgraded to Cubase 4 and recently upgraded to Cubase 6. First of all every DAW software has a steep leaning curve mostly because of the immense features. I can say that Cubase 6 is dirt cheap from the perspective of what you get. 5 years ago a drum loop library would have cost as much as just the CB software, same goes for the convolution reverb. Now its included along with a very valuable tutorial DVD. Steinberg has made a greater effort to provide assistance to the user via youtube, Cubase club and blogs provided for free. The basic functions are very easy to setup and use, but it must be noted that you will have to learn the more advance features, that are much more user friendly than before. The pitch correct, convolution reverb, variaudio (edit audio like midi files), drum loops, Halion SE ( realistic keyboard sounds ) and the Amp rack (as good as amplitube imo) are all super high quality and now included and eliminate the need for pricey plug-ins that you use to have to get, saving thousands. I can not think of any thing this software cannot do. Its a massive improvement over CB4. As far as the apple Pro Logic 9 vs Cubase 6, I had to think it over really hard. I have a MAC but its in the family room where I have no privacy for recording, on the other hand I could use CB6 on an affordable dual core laptop for just a few hundred vs a mac 17" pro laptop for a couple of thousand. I would like to use PL9 especially now that its very very reasonable, but do not regret CB6 on my dual core 17' laptop with the superb focusrite 2i2 interface all for under a grand. Overall an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up!!!
