Samurai Game by Christine Feehan
Paranormal Romance -July 3rd, 2012
4 1/2 stars

Samurai Game is the tenth in the Ghost Walker series. This book can be easily read by itself but many characters from previous books revisit which make reading the prior books helpful and add to the story.

In this exciting installment, Japanese businesswoman Azami 'Thorn' Yoshiie is on a mission of revenge against the man who `created' and tortured her. Taken and brutally experimented on by the nefarious Dr. Whitney, Azami was termed a throwaway because she did not manifest paranormal powers like the rest of the children in his lab. But she secretly hid her powers from him. Fortunately, when he left her for dead she was rescued by a powerful and honorable Japanese businessman. From her adopted father, she learned the ways of the samurai and plotted her vengeance against, Dr. Whitney. A man without morals or conscience. As she seeks to undermine Dr. Whitney's power base she runs into the elite Ghostwalker soldiers. Men who have also been enhanced and have special abilities.

Azami decides she must discover if the Ghostwalkers are in league with Dr. Whitney and enters their stronghold in disguise only to be attacked. There she finds the amazing Ghostwalker, Sam Johnson. A man who instantly realizes that there is something different about her and their attraction is immediate. As they fight to stay alive they form an unlikely and unbeatable team. But someone else wants Sam and Azami has dark secrets of her own. Can they work together and prevent Dr. Whitney's bid for power or are they one too many steps behind?

Readers of this series or any of Christine Feehan's books will definitely be satisfied with Samurai Game. Although not my favorite in the series, the strong characterization and emotional highs and lows make this a non-stop read. Azami is an incredible heroine. She is strong and independent. She feels she must look after and control everything. But this control is fragile and as she gets closer to confronting her demons she realizes how she needs a strong shoulder to lean on sometimes. The torture and abuse she endured would kill the sprit of most characters. I was constantly awed by her resilience and fortitude plus she has some pretty wickedly cool ninja skills! Sam is also a sympathetic character, while all of his teammates have slowly found their mates, he has been resigned to being alone. Not exactly content but `okay' with having his job be his purpose in life. But Azami changes all that and to keep her by his side this loyal soldier will even defy his leader. The plot also carries the story as Whitney and another powerful female bid for power and their lackeys are dying like flies. Plus the Ghostwalkers and Azami look for the traitor in their mist things only heat up more. However, the author leaves plenty of room for more suspense in her next book...I can't wait!

Strong, spellbinding writing will keep you on the edge of your seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great GhostWalker story!, July 3, 2012
This review is from: Samurai Game (Kindle Edition)
I am a long time fan of Christine Feehan's GhostWalker series and have been waiting with bated breath for Samurai Game. This is a paranormal series but the GhostWalker series is not about ghosts. GhostWalkers are a secret group of Super Soldiers created by a brilliant scientist, Dr. Peter Whitney, who ends up going a "little" mad. They are humans born with extra sensory skills who have had their DNA altered, some by choice and some were "adopted" by Dr. Whitney as children and used as experiments. The series is complex and I do suggest reading in order.

In Samurai Game we get Sam and Azami's story. Samurai Game is an interesting, action packed installment of the GhostWalker series. The plot is multi-layered and much more than the blurb implies. I won't go into plot specifics, to do so would definitely spoil certain plot points.

The bond between Sam and Azami is incredibly strong from the beginning and only gets stronger. Azami is fierce a fierce samurai, I would say she is one of the most kick ass heroines I've read. Under all her kick-assness, is a horrible secret and years of abuse. Sam....siggggghhhh, he is on my most perfect, sexy, alpha hero list. He loves Azami from the get go and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her and make her trust him. Their first kiss.....SWOON!!!!

The emotions run high and are all over the place, fear, despair, love, passion, Samurai Game is a definite emotional roller coaster, I cried a few times while reading it. There is a lot of fighting and military "talk" in Samurai Game, there has to be because of the nature of the plot and the character of Sam and Azami. We get to see previous GhostWalkers, including Rye and Lily and hear about how members of the other GhostWalker teams are doing. I love the razzing and camaraderie of the GhostWalkers, if they were real I would be a groupie. GATOR!!! God how I love that man, his Cajun line of BS and charm is present in Samurai Game. There are some new characters introduced, including Azami's brothers, I hope to see them all in future GhostWalker books.

GhostWalkers is a series I can't get enough of. The last book came out December 2010, and while the wait for Samurai Game was tortuous, it was well worth it! BTW...The cover is beautiful and I am so glad I have it in print.

If you like multi-layered, sexy, romantic suspense with a touch of paranormal, the GhostWalkers is a series you really want to check out.
